Sri Lanka is a country which has 1340Km of beautiful beaches around the country. These beaches provide homes to millions of birds and other animals. Also, these lovely beaches attract millions of tourists every year to see and feel the beauty.
But due to human activities, most of the Srilankan beaches are polluted with polythene, plastic and many other garbage sources which are non-biodegradable.
Green Map Sri Lanka, Big Hearts Foundation and I Am Carbon Negative are volunteer-driven nature lovers organizations under Big Hearts Foundation which primary activity to protect nature and educate the nation about protecting nature through carbon negative living and fair usage of the natural resources.
Both Green Map Sri Lanka and I Am Carbon Negative along with MEPA (Marine Environmental Protection Authority) collaboratively organized this “Green Map Srilanka Coastal Cleanup 4.0” event to clean the beaches from dumped garbage by the fellow nation.
We Green Map Sri Lanka, Big Hearts Foundation, I Am Carbon Negative teams would like to thank all the sponsors who supported and volunteers who participated for Green Map Sri Lanka Coastal cleanup 4.0 happened on 2nd of June 2018 7.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m Wellawatta railway station.
Due to our capacity, our volunteers were not able to extend the cleanup beyond Wellawatta railway station. Nearly 150kg of garbage cleaned in the railway station and coastal area.
We experienced that we need more manpower to clean up this coastal area which no one going to clean forever.
Also, we are planning to partner with Sri Lanka railway to educate people about protecting coastal areas with not throwing garbage to the railway track and ask them to put all garbage to garbage bins placed in the railway station.
